Bladerider Team Sailor Rohan Veal broke the 'Around the World' Record in Dubai on the 12 November, claiming it in a time of 1:29.37 sailing on a brand new Bladerider straight out of the box. This time was more than 12 minutes faster than the previous record held by a Extreme 40 catamaran.
Veal later commented that in more suitable conditions (ie flat water and an off-shore breeze), it would be possible to sail around the World in less than 80 minutes. He is now working with locals in the UAE to hold an multi-day event where competitors will get as many attempts as they like to not only get the fastest time for the day, but to also break the 80 minute barrier. Other fleet and slalom short-course racing events are also proposed in both Dubai and nearby Abu Dhabi.
2007 ISAF Conference
It was not good news for the Bladerider 2012 Olympic Event campaign, as there was a strong push to ensure that the current Olympic Events are maintained, leaving the only option for the Bladerider in 2012 is to go up against the Mens Dinghy Event, ie The Laser. This is extremely unlikely and therefore extreme sailors will have to wait four years until ISAF decide on the Events for the 2016 Games.
In addition, Bladerider Team Sailor Rohan Veal was short-listed as a finalist for the Rolex World Sailor of the Year for the second time, but missed out on this prestigious award from what seemed like a narrow margin from Alinghi helmsman, Ed Baird.
Well over 120 Bladerider X8's have been sold already and milestone boat number #100 is scheduled to be shipped on the 3 December to a lucky customer (more on this in next month's newsletter).
If there is anyone still interested in getting a boat before the end of the year, here is the list of the available boats (however as we are selling 5 boats on average every week, these boats won't last long)...

New Freight Charges Starting 2008
As of the 1 January 2008, we will be introducing new Air and Sea Freight charges to different zones around the World. This is due to additional charges from our handlers from the increase in oil prices and the varying administration costs of sending boats to so many different countries. The prices will vary from country to country, but most will be increased by 10-30%.
This maybe a good reason to order a new boat for delivery in early 2008, by locking in a low freight price and free covers now. Note that there is plenty of spots left at the moment, but that might change in the next few weeks! more...

Markus had never sailed a boat before (any boat that is).
He had done a bit of windsurfing and waterskiing, but that is it! Amazing!!!
Times are tough in Dubai as highflyer Glenn Raphael can only drive his 911 Turbo
to the club
to go for a sail on his new boat. Glenn had to sell Bugatti as he was short on cash ;-)

"I'm since a few weeks a proud owner of a Bladerider, bought the boat via Kalle Koster. It is truly an amazing boat!" - Eelco Boers, Holland
"The Bladerider was such a thrilling experience; like one I have never experienced before...foiling and going such high speeds is something I look forward to experience again once the Olympics are over!!" - Anna Tunnicliffe, Miami, USA
"It was such an exhilerating experience for me because man has wanted to fly for so long and for a sailor to experience his passion for sailing while flying is the best of both worlds. The Bladerider is a challenge I look forward to mastering and carrying the new skills I learn to other boats." - Brad Funk, Miami, USA
Mike Owen proving that he has finally got the hang of sailing the Bladerider in the UK.
Watanabe christening his new Bladerider in Japan with beer of course!
